Neurum Creek Folk Festival
September 25th, 2007
The weekend 14/15/16th September saw the 2nd Neurum Creek Folk Festival held at Neurum Creek Bush Retreat. Having attended several festivals over the last few years big and small, this has got to be the best music weekend and camping weekend I can remember. For the festival goers the music started off on Friday evening and continued on until late Sunday afternoon with a varied and talented line up covering a broad spectrum of styles. Highlights for me were Martin Pearson, Jeremiah and the Slimy Brothers, and my wife particularly enjoyed Rebecca Wright and Alan Kelly. Although not everything was to my taste, every performance I heard was excellent in quality and presentation. On Friday and Saturday nights there were sessions around the campfire, but I have to confess to only hearing them in the distance from my bed.
Organised by Angela Kitzelman and Keith Urquhart with a host volunteers, the festival aims to showcase the talents of South East Queensland performers and provide an atmosphere of community and inclusion for our corner of Queensland. From my perspective the whole event ran smoothly from start to finish.
Adult tickets were $35 ea including 2 nights camping, which is excellent value for money in anyone’s book.
The choice of Neurum Creek Bush Retreat as a venue cannot be faulted. This is an idyllic campground near Woodford just north of Brisbane. Performances were held under a marquee with a large adjacent tree providing an outdoor shady area. The licensed bar featured mulled wine and hot toddies, as well beer, wine and cider. Catering was provided by the Villeneuve Rural Fire Brigade.
This event is definitely back on my calendar for next year. I hope the weather remembers to be perfect again!
